Good morning, Hope Community!

Today's topics:

1: Important Reminders

2: Learning Highlight

3: Curriculum Focus - School Policies

4: House Points

5: Photos of the week

1: Important Reminders

  • First Parent Teacher Conference (PTC) will be on Oct 6

  • Autumn Break - Oct 9-13 (NO SCHOOL)

  • Open School - Nov 3rd

  • Sports Day date has changed from Nov 17 to Dec 1st

2: Learning Highlight - Safety Drills

In order to help reinforce the safe and nurturing environment of our school community, we regularly practice safety drills for the following scenarios:

  • Fire

  • Earthquake

  • Tsunami

  • Earthquake followed by tsunami

  • Earthquake followed by fire

  • Stranger Danger: Inside the school

  • Stranger Danger: Outside the school

In the past two weeks we have had a school fire drill and earthquake drill. We try to practice each safety drill twice in a year. As with any emergency protocol, we hope nothing ever happens, but we want all students and teachers to be prepared.

3: Curriculum Focus - School Policies

Community members who have been with the school in the past may remember our dedication to our school’s self-review & accreditation, ensuring that we are delivering the best learning experience possible for our students. The first step of this process was successfully completed in May 2022 with our school’s Recognition through the International Curriculum Association.

The next stage of this process is a full Accreditation that will ensure that we are doing our best to deliver the International Primary Curriculum and International Middle Years Curriculum to a high standard. This self-review is viewed at four levels of stakeholders:

  • Learners

  • Teachers

  • Leaders

  • Community

ICA Accreditation allows us to review whether the whole school community is unified in understanding the type of learners we are creating, using the school’s Mission and Vision to guide us.

In some of the blogs last year, we shared some of the key policies that guide us to enable our Mission and Vision:

We always welcome thoughts and comments around these policies and whether they align with our Mission and Vision. For new members of the school community, the assessment policy gives guidance around the different ways we give feedback to guide your child’s progress.

Currently, we are deep into producing a self-review portfolio that will be submitted to the International Curriculum in the middle of October. This will be followed by a visit from members of the International Curriculum Association to verify our judgements on the 28th and 29th November. We are excited to have guests of the ICA visit our school and see the excellent learning that Hope teachers provide.
