3: Learning Highlights!

G1 students are currently learning about the history of Chatan and making their own time line using the pictures they have. Connecting this activity to Math, students are working to calculate how many years ago those historical events happened.

After reading the 2nd book of the "Magic Tree House" series, Mr. Yoshi asked students to create their original ending.

Some students chose to continue to write their story after class, with some students wanting to write a whole story!

In ELA, the Grade 5 learners read an extract on “kintsugi” the Japanese art of putting together pieces of ceramic - often used in putting together artefacts. Before we began the reading and writing task the learners had to put together their own pieces of an artefact related to one of our host, home, heritage and adopted countries! The learners collaborated well and applied their new vocabulary words to their reading and writing. ✏️ This links to their current unit, “Here and Now, There and Then”

G6 is finishing their last History assessment by focussing on two learning goals ("reliability of sources" and "causes and consequences of events"). This week the students broke these goals down into sections, making sure they understand their meaning. They reflected on what sources entail (eg. an author/producer, a date etc.), and were tasked with analyzing a map that presents the Ryukyu Trade Routes (late 15th century). In groups, they worked out the author, date, title and purpose of the source, and discussed if it is reliable.

Last week we held our Annual "Celebration of Learning" event. This year was titled "Action Ambassadors" and focused on how the students can actively contribute to the SDGs, whether it be in the classroom, in the local community or in their learning.

Every class approached the event in different ways, with some learning how to "upcycle", establish sustainable companies, develop water filtration systems, and more! Please enjoy the below photos from the event! Thank you to all the teachers and parents that helped make this event successful. Great job to all the students!
