1: Important Reminders

  • Oct 13-17 - Autumn Break NO SCHOOL

  • Nov 26 - Sports Day

2: IMYC Exit Points

On Thursday, October 2, our Middle School learners proudly shared their first Exit Point presentations of the year. Parents and High School learners joined us alongside Middle Schoolers to celebrate the creativity and understanding that went into each unit of learning.

The Exit Point is a great opportunity for learners to extend their learning and reflect on the Big Ideas of their units. Learners rotated to different presentations, showcasing their skills and insights in front of a supportive audience, who then provided peer feedback on how to demonstrate growth.

  • Grade 6 Unit – Discovery: Learners explored how finding out new things is a natural human driver and how it can bring both positive and negative effects.

  • Grade 7 Unit – Curiosity: Learners investigated and creatively presented how the desire to know more drives exploration, creativity, and aspiration.

  • Grade 8 Unit – Identity: Learners reflected on how our sense of self is shaped by our interactions with others and how this impacts the way we exist in the world, presenting their interests and personal experiences with their friends and lives.

The presentations were filled with new learning, reflection, and growing confidence in speaking. It was inspiring to see how our learners connected knowledge and skills, showing understanding by applying personal learning goals and international perspectives.

Though this unit concluded with a meaningful Exit Point, it also marked a strong beginning for our learners. We look forward to continuing their journeys of Discovery, Curiosity, and Identity as they develop in these areas over time.

4: Learning Highlights

Prep Class

After learning about the meaning and significance of emblems, the learners had the opportunity to select their own personal or group emblems. They thoroughly enjoyed the creative process and had a fantastic time collaborating with their peers during the activity.

Grade 1M Design Class (IPC Unit: Buildings) - Famous Building Paper Circuit Project

Learning Goal: 1.07 Be able to list materials and tools needed for production

PLG in Focus: Thinker and Ethical

In Grade 1M, students have planned and constructed models of famous buildings, adding electronic components for their paper circuit project. They are expected to identify the tools and materials required to make their models light up. The students have learned about electric current and how electricity flows through a closed circuit.

Grade 3's Field Trip to Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum

This week was Grade 3's first field trip for the year. They took a trip to the Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum, with emphasis being on art since it is linked to the current IPC unit: Paintings, Pictures and Photographs.

The tour began with a briefing session by the educational team at the museum followed by an interactive activity with the kids, to help them get into the mind of an artist and how to appreciate art. During the activity, learners open up a box of cards with pictures of paintings on them. Learners had to each choose a card with a painting that best represented their emotions or thoughts. After that, they each had to choose a card with a painting that they liked very much and explain why. This practice was applied later on when we went to the art exhibition.

During the tour round the art exhibition, learners were asked to choose the artworks that inspired them the most and share what they thought about those works. Some of the students were rather articulate about their chosen paintings. They even talked about the 7 elements of art that we had learnt in the classroom in Art Task 2. One student even spotted a Pointillism piece and called to everyone to go see it. They were also able to infer the messages by the various artists and their artworks.

Learners were also encouraged to observe the technical elements of the museum as they prepare for their upcoming art exhibition (Exit Point) that is happening next Thursday.

Before leaving, we stopped by the history exhibitions as well and turned our attention to some of the important things that might relate to the upcoming IPC unit: Temples, Tombs and Treasures!

Grade 6 had an activity that was a combined Science and History lesson - they made paper from recycled materials!

They worked in groups showcasing great collaboration and resilience, the paper making activity was based on the "Silk Road." They have been learning about the resources traded on the Silk Road and paper making was a skill that was passed down through many trade relations.

In our Global Studies class, learners took on the roles of representatives from Indigenous youth organizations and participated in a Mock UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. They explored the challenges Indigenous communities face, including the loss of native languages, cultural erosion, and other pressing concerns. Then they will work collaboratively on a resolution paper that they will submit to the UN Economic and Social Council to express their requests for change, protection and actions from various stakeholders and countries.

In the G10 Careers class, learners finalized their résumés and then worked in groups to design their own companies in various industries. Using the résumés they created, they will take on the roles of employers by introducing their companies to the class, beginning the hiring process, and conducting interviews with their peers.
