2 - Curriculum Focus: PLG of the Month
For the month of September, Hope will be focusing on the Personal Learning Goal of being “Ethical”. This can be a difficult goal to understand as interpretation can really vary from person to person. At Hope, we view an “Ethical” learner through the following qualities:
Making the “right choices” in a situation, even if no one is watching.
Identifying what is the most “right choice” to make in any situation.
Understanding why rules are in place and how they can help society.
Understand that different cultures have different rules and where these rules come from based on historical influence.
Making selfless decisions, even when this may be challenging
Making positive choices, even when this may be difficult.
As we get deeper into the school year, please support this personal goal at home by discussing the ethical challenges and choices your children are making in their day to day lives and whether they are making the right choices.
3 - Friends of Hope
"Friends of Hope" is our version of a parent organization within the school. Mr. Brandon and Mr. SooEung meet with volunteer parents about every other month to discuss plans, support roles, activities, and more.
Last year Friends of Hope organized a uniform re-sale event during our Hope Family Day. This is still ongoing, and families are encouraged to donate any used uniforms that your child has outgrown. The donated uniforms are organized and re-sold (pay what you want) during our whole school events. The collected money is used to fund other events the Friends of Hope have planned! Some possible upcoming events include:
Coffee Time: meet with other parents for casual discussions and to sign up as a volunteer for future events
Beach Clean-up: Support our local community by organizing a clean-up of the surrounding area. Our students will likely join!
Movie Night / Picnic: A fun evening at Baba park for all families
Bingo Night: Participate with your whole family after school!
Please note: these are all tentative ideas. The Friends of Hope will share more details as events and plans are finalized.
To learn more, or to volunteer, please contact: friends@hopeoki.org Thank you to all the families that have participated so far!
